New ideas in politics and philosophy tend to emerge in times of social, political, and/or economic stress. How can this be explained?
politics and philosophy's emerge in times of crisis because apparently the current philosophy is not working. so this means it is time for a large scale change. this can be explained by any government or empire. it is the basic dynastic cycle, were if one policy is not working throw it out and get a new one. all governments and empires go through this at some point and in some cases it leads to the downfall of the kingdom.

Population growth was the most significant development of the Classical Period. True or False?
Population growth was the most significant development of the classical period. From the years 1000 BCE to 1 CE the population of the world jumped from 120 million people to 250 million. What caused this surge? farming, people realized that they could grow crops near them rather then having to go many miles to collect the grain. then people discovered iron, it could be formed into weapons. then they made it into plows and attached a horse of ox a plow could do twice the work of humans.these thing led to the development of bigger citys such as rome and alexandria on the medditeranian and changan in china. having bigger citys like rome (pop. 1 mil) led to collective learning, such as arts and philosophy.

Before studying the particular civilizations of the Classical Period, but after reading the introduction to this time period, what do you believe was the biggest change that occurred during this time period?
I think that the development of trade and trade routs was the biggest change that occurred during the classical period. the formation of the silk road led to the spread of culture, language and trade goods. before this time people were limited to what resources were immediately accessible. the new trade routs enabled people to move further away from the rivers and start new cities elsewhere. by being less dependent on producing necessities the people had time to learn specialty jobs, like smithing or writing. having the time to do these jobs enabled society to become more advanced.
